Choosing and buying engagement rings can be a terrifying experience for many men who may not have the slightest idea about where to start.
Fortunately, it doesn't have to be so difficult. Buying diamond rings really involves choosing a setting first and then choosing a diamond or another gemstone.
Settings are in the metal of your choice: gold (yellow gold or white gold engagement rings) or platinum. You should choose the metal on the basis of what you know about her tastes and what you can tell from the jewellery she chooses to wear, i.e. if she always wears discreet yellow gold, don't buy her larger diamond white gold rings!
Solitaire settings are the most popular setting. This involves one diamond which is grasped in claws in order to set off the diamond to as much light as possible. Four claws or six can be used: four claws shows off more diamond whilst six gives more security and peace of mind. The band itself can be single or double, and tapered towards the diamond or flat the most important part of the details is the main setting, and the finer details will just follow.
For a unique ring, the three-stone setting allows for customisation more readily. The three stones represent past, present and future so there is more decision-making here because you must choose the main stone (it doesn't have to be diamond) and the two side stones. Multi-stone rings allow you to bring colour into your ring should you choose a main stone other than diamond ruby, sapphire and emerald are the most popular.
